“Carrie Ingalls The Forgotten Sister” by Clarissa Willis

Caroline (Carrie) Ingalls was the sister of Laura Ingalls Wilder, who famously wrote children’s books about her childhood and pioneering days just before the turn of the 20th Century. Many people grew up reading these novels, like me, who got lost in the adventures of an ordinary girl experiencing history.

I was delighted to discover this story about Laura’s younger sister, Carrie Ingalls. It is well written for young readers, very informative, and the style is captivatedly similar to the books I very much adored. The illustrations are also beautiful with a comparable style taking me back in time.

This account of Carrie’s life covered the girls’ early years in more detail, with the divergence into Carrie’s accomplishments as an adult. She became a landowner, an editor, and an independent journalist. I highly recommend this book to children around 9 up to adult who want to revisit the Ingalls family.
