Book Review

I wanted to love this story, but found it difficult to connect with the characters. It felt a bit detached, but I’m also not a swimmer or an Olympian, so that world felt far from mine. Alfred Nakache was a champion swimmer who overcame his fear of the water to a life in it. It also played a part in his survival while being a prisoner at Auschwitz.
I have read many accounts from WWII, both fiction and non-fiction, this one did not hold my attention.

Recommended for late teens to adult readers due to war and prisoner content.
